Brother Coffey Update 07 : Thur, 27 Sep 2007

Sep 27, 2007 5:04 PM
Brothers & Sisters,

God bless all and trust you are all well.
Just a very quick note to inform you that Bro. Ron will be at his home
 tomorrow.
The doctors are happy with the operation and his pace of recovery and
they are going to set him up with some home care nursing assistance
and are going to let him go.
We thank the Lord for the quick turnaround for our brother.
This should be the last update from concerning Bro. Ron, and I will be
leaving Monday for the Ukraine for special meetings there.
God bless and trust these updates were useful for you.
In His Service,
Bro. Barry

Brother Coffey/Brother Pruitt Update 06 : Tue, 25 Sep 2007
Subject: Update on Ron Spencer September 25th

Brothers & Sisters,
This update is from Bro. Tim Pruitt who drove in to visit with Bro.
Ron and ministered in the church there. This is the report he sent to
me, and there is a small note from Bro. Mark Spencer, Ron's brother at
the bottom of the page.
I plan to go and visit him again on Friday before leaving for the Ukraine.
Feel free to circulate this email.
Bro. Barry

Dear Saints,
I spent several days at Charlottesville with Bro. Ron Spencer and his
family.
On Friday, Bro. Ron had surgery on both arms where they did skin
grafting. He was not really able to recognize what was going on
around him for much of the day. Both of his arms are bandaged to the
elbows with only a thumb sticking out of the bandage on this right
hand.
Saturday was the 12th day since the accident and today was a glorious
day in Bro. Ron's road to recovery. We had arrived at the hospital
again this morning and it was business as usual with Bro. Ron still
sleeping. He had a restless night and they had to up the level of
sedation to keep him quiet. We went to lunch and went back to the
burn unit and while we were there, Bro. Ron woke up. When he saw me,
he started crying and raised both of those bandaged arms to the Lord
in praise. It was a very emotional moment for us all. I stood beside
his bed, encouraging him and giving him assurance that everything was
going to be alright.
Our last visit was on Monday morning. Bro. Ron was able to talk to us
and was grinning from ear to ear when we left. He was off of the
ventilator and oxygen. He still has a feeding tube through his nose
which could be removed this week depending on how well he can swallow.
Please continue to pray for him and his family. He is still
hospitalized in intensive care. He will have weeks of rehabilitation
ahead of him.

This is from Mark Spencer:
Greetings in the Name of Lord
Once again, giving praises to the Lord for the miracle that has taken
place in Bro Ron's life. I just received news that the Doctors had
him up walking around. In less then 24 hours, he has went from death
unto life! From the grim reports on Monday morning to walking and
talking today!! What a mighty God we serve!!!

Brother Coffey Update 05 : Fri, 21 Sep 2007

Bro. Ron did go into surgery this morning at about 8:25 am.
The family will let me know when he comes out, thinking that the
surgery would last about 2 hours or so.
God bless,
Bro. Barry

Brother Coffey Update 04 : Thu, 20 Sep 2007

Dear Saints,
God bless all of you in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today (Thursday, Sept. 20th) we visited Bro. Ronald Dean again at UVA
Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. I want to share some brief
observations as accurately and as sincerely as I can. I am trying to
tell it as we (Bro. Mike Walls and myself) observed the situation
today. We were able to have only a short visit in his room today and
had prayer with him, and we were told not to pray loud or speak loudly
at all due to his restless condition after a difficult night. We
visited Bro. Ron one week ago, a few days after the tragedy occurred.
He is still sedated and in a subdued state of consciousness. He has a
severe case of pneumonia and the doctors are treating him for that.
The evidence of the infectious state of his lungs is evident and they
have to do repeated clearing of the breathing tubes that are still
inserted in his lungs. These tubes actually get "clogged" making it
hard to breathe and he begins to get very restless as a result.
The whites of his eyes are yellowed and his throat is still swollen
and they do not feel that they are able to remove any of the breathing
tubes, they are considering removing them after his surgery in the
morning. He now has a communicative infection called a VRE which comes
from bacteria in the body as a result of wounds or other infection.
VRE infections are more difficult to treat than other infections
because fewer antibiotics are effective against the bacteria. Visitors
have to be masked in order to visit now. Bro. Ron was more responsive
this evening with his family and was acknowledging their presence
since they were reducing the medications in preparation for surgery in
the morning.
He is scheduled for the first of the skin graft surgeries tomorrow
morning at 10:00 a.m. They need to work on his left arm because the
skin grafting is more successful when it is done quickly.
It is important to note a few things here. First of all, Bro. Ron is
still in a very serious condition. He is still in the same location in
the trauma and burn center that he was when he came in to the
hospital. This means they have not downgraded his condition, they keep
him in close to the center because of the constant care that he needs.
The complication of the pneumonia weakens him again, and requires even
more medication.
Secondly, we know that God's healing power is unlimited on behalf of
His own, and the promise is still ours to claim. In describing his
condition above we are not discounting God's ability to heal. But what
Bro. Ron needs is a supernatural touch from the Divine Physician to
help the healing process to progress. I would sincerely invite you to
pray fervently for our brother (and his wife and family) that God
would bring healing to his body, and help him quickly through the
restorative process. Our part is to "only believe" and continue to
mediate for him through prayer.

We will try to continue to give updates as they become available.
God bless all of you,
Bro. Barry

P.S. Matthew has to see an orthopedic surgeon concerning his knee
after his fall with Bro. Ron but he is in good spirits and the burn
places are healing very well on his hands.

GALATIANS 6:2
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

AT.THY.WORD 50-0714
A person who lives their life for theirself, lives a selfish life.
We must live for others: "Bear ye one another's burdens and so fill
full the law of Christ." And we got to have a feeling for one another.
And therefore, when you do all you know how to do, then when you do
lay down at night, well, you have the consolation knowing that you
tried your best.
I can't make everyone believe. That's impossible. Jesus couldn't do
that when He was on earth. And I know there'll just be a few that
believes. But if anything I can add to help the Gospel, that's my duty
of being here, is to try to help somebody along the way.

Brother Coffey Update 03 : Tue, 18 Sep 2007

Tuesday, September 18, 2007
Bro. Ron has made some steady improvement over the last 24 hours.
His temperature is lowered to near normal, his swelling is reduced.
The doctors are indicating that they may attempt to remove his
breathing tube by tomorrow and he is batting his eyes a little more
often now.
They naturally are still watching for infection and monitoring his
 right lung.
We are thankful to God for these developments, but need to continue to
hold him up in prayer.
God bless,
Bro. Barry Coffey

Brother Coffey Update 02 : Mon, 17 Sep 2007

Brothers & Sister in Christ,
God bless you and hope all is well.
I wanted to send along another short update on the situation with Bro.
Bro. Ron. I spoke at length with his wife again this morning and I do
plan to go to UVA again on Thursday to visit him and check on his
progress. I try to stay in contact with Sis. Connie daily to see how
he (and her) are doing and to get accurate information.

For the first time since Bro. Ron was sedated he opened his eyes this
morning. They were turning him in the bed, and spoke his name and he
opened his eyes just for a second or two. That is an encouraging sign.
The doctors said that starting Monday they were going to try to
decrease the pain medications and anesthesia and bring him into a
greater state of alertness. All of his vitals are good except his
lungs which still have the spot and fluid on the lower right side. The
risk of infection is a major concern, hence they are watching his body
temperature closely.

As was reported by some, he does not have a
punctured lung. His breathing machine setting has stayed lowered to
where it was yesterday (an 8) and for most people that would mean the
end of the ventilator, but for him they still cannot remove it, it is
too early. They still want to sit him up so he can breathe easier.
They hope to begin the grafting process by Friday.

Sis. Connie is still doing well, under the circumstances. She has
been encouraged by all the concern expressed and for the support she
has received from so many people world-wide. The doctors say that
when a patient is in this condition, you can make progress one day,
then lose it all the next, then improve again the next day and lose it
all again so it is very much like a roller coaster when it comes to
recovery.

Second, today would be a day naturally that would be difficult for
Bro. Ron if they are reducing the pain medications and anesthesia.
They still have to dress the burned areas, do all of the scrubbing
that goes on and move him around as they do. If he is coming to a
state of awareness, he would naturally feel more pain and discomfort.
His situation is still considered very serious, both in the short term
and for long term recovery. Burn patients are handled differently and
require unique care because of the risk of infection. And even though
Bro. Ron has proven to be a resilient person, without a true miracle,
the restoration of his body can take a long time.

There are very few people permitted to go in and see him, mainly
limited to immediate family and some ministers to pray for him. The
family is not staying at the hospital but commuting from home each
day. The medical team is with Bro. Ron in the morning to dress the
wounded areas and no one is permitted in there when that is going on.

I will try to keep you posted when we see him again.
God bless you and if there is anything else I can do let me know.
Check for information also on www.RonaldDeanSpencer.com.

Brother Coffey Update 01 : Sat, 15 Sep 2007

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
God bless you all and trust this finds all of you well and
appreciating His wondrous grace.
Yesterday I was able to go and visit Bro. Ron Spencer at the UVA
hospital in Charlottesville, VA with Bro. Mike Walls. We went to see
him and to pray for him and also to visit with Sis. Connie to assess
whether there was anything we could do for the family. I want to
distribute this email so that you will have an accurate account of the
details as Matthew related them to Sis. Connie, then to me. I want to
share with you what happened and about our visit with him in the
hospital.
As most of you know, Bro. Ron was attempting to light a propane torch
used for clearing brush on the proposed site of his son Andrew's
house. In the moments when Bro. Ron was trying to light the torch,
Matthew happened to come by and saw his father out in the field, and
stopped to help. Since the valve was open, propane was spreading out
around them. When the ignition occured, Matthew was also inside the 20
foot circle of flame, and jumped back, then went in to get his father.
He picked up Bro. Ron who had fallen, and when he did they both fell.
He pulled his father free of the flames, and stood him up. For one
brief moment they looked at each other and Matthew knew this was
extremely serious. He then reached out, and picked up his father and
moved toward the house. When Sis. Connie came out he shouted to her,
"We have been burnt, call the EMS." They decided to drive to the EMS
station instead of waiting for them to come, since Andrew was also in
the house and could take them in his truck. They drove to the station
and then they took over, moving him immediately to the hospital. On
the way, his air passages were closing due to swelling, so they
inserted a tube to keep the air passages open. They sedated him
immediately at the first hospital and decided to move him to the UVA
Medical Center where they have a special surgical trauma and burn unit
for these kinds of cases. They had to drive there due to bad weather.
When we arrived to visit him and Sis. Connie, he was still swollen,
with dark discoloration on his face, lips and neck. His facial hair
was gone and his hands were bandaged heavily and suspended to promote
some circulation. He still had several tubes in him, enabling them to
keep him hydrated and for the medical team to administer pain
medication and anesthesia. He is still in an "induced coma" because of
the intense pain and shock to his system which would be humanly
unbearable. The doctors were watching him very closely, trying to
prevent any type of infection or complications with his lungs or
kidneys.
He is able, they told us, to know that people are around him, and
present with him, and he gave a slight response as he heard our
voices. We prayed for him twice. One of the most touching things to
describe yesterday, was Ron's mother leaning over his bed and talking
to him.
Bro. Ron is still not breathing on his own, and that is naturally a
concern to the medical team. Today, they were going to attempt to
reduce some of his pain medication in order to "sit him up" in a
special chair/bed to promote circulation and restoration of normal
body functions.
Sis. Connie asked me to ask you to pray for Ron and for Matthew and
for the whole family especially because of the shock of such a sudden
and violent event. Due to the possibility of infection, very few
people are actually able to visit him. Matthew was released on
Thursday evening, but is still nursing some bad burns and muscular
strain from lifting his father.
It is far from over, unless there is a supernatural touch that we all
know is possible. I could not think of another thing that we could do
for them besides prayer that would be more profitable. Their church
has rallied around the family and Bro. Frazier is back in the full
time preacher's role. Many other brothers have offered to come and
help to preach.
If I have any further information I will try to pass it on to you. We
were hoping to return to visit next week to see his progress. I will
try to send along an update again.

MATTHEW 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men
this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

THE.WAY.OF.A.TRUE.PROPHET.OF.GOD 62-0513M
3-1 .And there's where I hope to get to go and see Mr. Weatherby,
the one that made the rifle that the shell exploded in. He
didn't--have the headspace backed off too much and let the shell push
back, instead of go forward. It was an old rifle; I just sent to him,
and he had it bored out then, and made into a different kind of a
rifle. And I put the shell in it, and raised up to shoot, and it,
well, it blowed the gun fifty yards around me like that and melted in
my hand. The barrel went out on the fifty yard line; the bolt went
plumb back behind the deer cage, thirty, forty yards behind me, and
pieces of shrapnel flew and knocked bark off trees and everything
else. So that was that close to my eye, just about one inch, where it
went off like that.... And that gun will stand sixty-nine hundred
pounds of pressure itself without blowing. So you can imagine how much
was on it to do that. And you remember, if it'll blow that, it
could've blowed my head and shoulders too. But there was the Lord
standing there. It didn't even let it hurt me; just scratched me
across the face, and a little shrapnel went in below the side of my
eye, made a ring around the sight, so it didn't touch the sight where
the shrapnel went in. One of the big pieces that stuck in the skull
went around the eye and didn't get in the eye. Oh, my.
3-3 Not long ago you remember, I told you He met me in the room and
said, "Do not fear, for the never failing Presence of Jesus Christ is
with you forever." So that proves it, that He is. A doctor that looked
at my eye in Louisville, he said... They wrote back to Doctor Sam
Adair down here, our friend, and said, "The only thing that I can say,
that the Lord was setting there that morning with His servant to
protect him, or he wouldn't even have head and shoulders left." So He
was really good to me, and I appreciate that. It brings me a little
closer; it always makes a little different.
